Display the date on the app icon
Stachu Strzyżewski
Hi there
Is there a way to change the way the app icon displays current datę? I know it can place the figure into the app's badge but it too easy to be mistaken as they look exactly the same as notifications. Hope it's possible to add it.
Fantastic app!!!
Happy New Year!

-----Update (2nd Jan 2026):------
This is still not possible in iOS26, and unfortunately we can't see that changing. Hopefully the widgets are meeting most of the need anyway now, even if they are bigger than an app icon. We'll update this post if anything changes.
-----Original response from 2018:------
Hi Stan. Thanks for your message. Unfortunately this is not currently possible.
Since iOS10.3, Apple has indeed allowed us to change the app's icon, but there are two important restrictions that they've put in place that mean it is currently impossible for us to display the date on the icon itself in a satisfactory way:
- It is impossible for us to change the icon without a pop-up showing to tell you that we've done it. Every day therefore, the pop-up would display telling you about the new icon.
- It is impossible for us to change the icon when the app is in the background. This would mean therefore that the icon was out of date until you opened the app in the morning.
We've logged a request with Apple that they change these restrictions in order to allow us to show the date on the icon, but have no indication that this will happen. If it does change, then we'll get going on it straight away.
I'll leave this suggestion open so that everyone can see this answer, and so we can keep you informed if any progress is made.
Thanks again, and sorry I can't give you better news on this one.

Displaying the day of week and date would be extremely helpful, similar to the Apple calendar app. The numeric red badge isn’t helpful and doesn’t stand apart from all the other apps that use the same method to display notifications.

What if you put todays date on the app icon? It’s not entirely revolutionary but it could be highly practical.

I use Timepage as my primary calendar app and have it on my iPhone's homepage. Currently, the icon does not display today's date. iCal's icon always displays the current date on the home screen and this is the one feature I miss.

OK, I am in my outrage to being pissed at Apple, but that makes sense that they wouldn't allow you to have the same privilege that they do with the Calendar app

There's no way people have been asking for this for seven years and you haven't done it

Amen!! I would LOVE if the App Icon showed the current date!
Much needed and would gain more users!

I need it too.

Absolutely agree that the date should update automatically. Having to open Timepage to see what the date is, well, rather annoying

Insted of having a number as a notification showing as the day, change it so the icon of the app show the day we are on

Many of us don’t like having a red badge to show us the current day because it feels like we have “unread” items. Please add an option of adding the day
inside
the app icon, similar to the iPhone native calendar app.Load More
